Who We Are

Girl Develop It is a 501(c)3 nonprofit that provides affordable and accessible programs to women who want to learn web and software development through hands-on instruction.

GDI leads the movement to provide women with avenues to participate in the technology industry today.

Our Mission

Our Mission

Include people who've been left out of technology education.

We believe…

Women have been left out of tech for no good reason.

Stereotypes we reject

  • Women just aren't interested in coding.
  • People can't learn to code as adults.
  • Tech is only for nerdy, geeky, quiet people.

Challenges Women Face

  • In-person, hands-on instruction is expensive
  • Free content is overwhelming and difficult to navigate
  • Uncomfortable to learn while underrepresented

Accessible and Inclusive

Accessible and inclusive

  • In-person, hands-on instruction at affordable prices
  • Publish class materials online for free
  • All questions are welcome
  • Invert the norm

Ways to Get Involved

Take a Class!

Enrolling in a class to learn new skills is a great way to support our chapter. Class fees support our efforts and help to provide scholarships to students in need. Plus, you get to learn a new skill!

Become a Teacher or a Teaching Assistant

Our organization doesn't work without people willing to teach or assist in classes. No prior teaching experience needed — just a desire to teach! We help with all the rest, including preparing curriculum, materials and organizing your first class.

Earn Free Classes

Earn one hour of class time on us for every hour that you spend volunteering as a TA. Sign up to volunteer with us at gdila.org/get-involved

Start a Study Group

Gather your fellow students together to work on projects, langauges, homework problems, and more.

Host or Sponsor events

Receiving help from the community enables us to support more students and teachers. Some ways to help include volunteerĀing your space for workshops, sponsoring snacks for events and donating to our scholarship fund.

Community Outreach

Promote Girl Develop It's mission, raise awareness, recruit instructors and TAs and promote fundraising. Manage our social media accounts, represent GDI at local events and submit events to online calendars.

Other ideas?

We always open to ideas for classes, programming and overall improvements for this chapter. Please feel free to speak to one of our chapter leaders, or email us at losangeles@girldevelopit.com.
